  • Access to non-technical information on the cumulative effects of resource development projects in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (Alberta) for use in project applications to the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB). Information relevant to the Social and Economic Impact Assessment portion of an application is available without the need to replicate costly and time-consuming studies and research.
  • Access to information on ongoing studies, surveys, initiatives, and programs affecting industry stakeholders.
  • Access to a forum to identify and deal with issues common to all stakeholders in a cooperative, timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Ability to participate in cooperative, multi-stakeholder initiatives to mitigate the social and economic impacts of development on the region.
  • Access to public relations, communications and survey material and presentations on the oil sands industry in Alberta.

Requirements for Membership

An individual, corporation, unincorporated organization, society or government body may apply to the members of The Oil Sands Developers Group for membership in the association and, on payment of the required fees and acceptance by at least three quarters of the members, become a member. Memberships are renewed annually.

Members are requested to provide the following documentation if pertinent:

  1. Project location (township and range)
  2. Preliminary schedule of events
  3. An annual report
  4. Head office information
  5. List of contacts in the company
  6. List of consultation meetings held and planned

Each member is invited to have one representative sit on The Oil Sands Developers Group Board of Directors and representatives to actively participate on any of the committees:

Each company is required to pay a base fee of $20,000 per year in advance for January of each year. An additional assessment fee, calculated using a project type based formula, is invoiced annually.

Additional costs may be assessed for special one-time studies, celebrations, projects, etc. using a formula basis, with prior agreement by all parties.
